Wilson Empire

I have already told you much about the Switchfoot concert I attended last Saturday. However, I still have one thing left to say, and it actually has nothing to do with Switchfoot.

Wilson Empire (also here) was Switchfoot's opening act. I don't think I can go without saying...that was probably the best opening band I've ever heard in my life. This is a very talented band from Atlanta, GA that I can see going far. They did 2 cover songs (U2 and the Cranberries) that were great (it takes a special lead singer to sing Bono, yet he pulled it off!) and they did several nice, easy going songs they wrote themselves, Including their radio hit, "Roah".

I looked at their schedule and noticed that they have 2 more gigs in Valdosta, both of which I'll try to attend (not sure if I'll be available for the September job, but I'll definitely be at Hildegard's Coffee shop to hear them in November.

Most opening acts I find obnoxious, probably because I'm in so much anticipation of the main attraction. However, Wilson Empire slowed me down and I very much enjoyed their opening gig with Switchfoot. If you aren't familiar with Wilson Empire's music I strongly recommend you at least give them a chance and listen to a few of their clips.

NL East Race

OK, so yesterday the Phillies beat the Mets...and I'm not sure if I need to be celebrating or not. Part of my mind is telling me to forget about the division title, let the Mets run away with it, and hope that the Phillies, who are in the WC race with us, will get beat up. But I dunno. Should I just root for both teams to go exactly .500 when they play each other?

We've got Hudson and Smoltz starting for us in the upcoming Mets series, which means we'll probably lose the following series, vs. the Phillies since our starters will go 4-5-1 that series.

I touched him(and he may of farted on me in return)

Oh man, there were two incredibly awesome things about the Switchfoot concert last night (besides the fact that Switchfoot is just awesome by themselves).

First, they let someone from the crowd come on stage and play guitar with them. He held a sign that said he knew how to play "Company Car" and switchfoot held them to it. On the list of songs I expected Switchfoot to perform, "company car" was towards the bottom, but this fan from the crowd helped make it possible.

Second, and this is were it gets really cool. Jon Foreman came out to the crowd during "Awakening". He stood up on someone's chair and was probably about 5-7 feet from me standing in the chair singing towards me. Then, he got down and ran back towards the stage. As he walked by I touched his right arm. My hand slid right off of his arm, because Jon was absolutely soaking wet from sweat. Jenny also touched him (she doesn't even want to be close to me when I'm that sweaty).

Anyways, to say the least, I'm going to go as long as I can without washing that hand. Today at church I plan to shake hands with my left hand, because it was my right that touched Mr. Foreman.

If you couldn't tell, I'm extremely pumped about the concert still, with my adrenaline still pumping extremely fast even though its the morning after. I am proud to be a carrier of Jon Foreman germs.

One last thought about the concert, ever since the song "Awakening" there was a pretty foul smell around the area Jenny and I were standing. We think Jon foreman cut one loose when he came to stand by us. Who knows, that may have even be why he came to the audience in the first place. He didn't want to do that to his band.

Standings...why I'm pessimistic right now

I just got through studying the standings and here are a few brief observations:

1. The Mets are a little on the lucky side

2. The Phillies are exactly where they should be (As in, they Pyth Record is also their actual record)

3. The Braves are a little on the unlucky side

[Sidenote, anybody else notice what happened to the TX Rangers Pyth. Record after last night's slaughter? OK, OK, maybe it didn't change as much as I thought it would but it does (well, sort of) even out after all of those beatings the Rangers received this year.]

All three of these NL East teams' Pyth. Records are quite even. But now for the bad news...

The Braves hope to at least salvage a split
with the Reds. A split with the Reds, we need more than a split. We need to start winning some series, how bout some sweeps against these weak, sub .500 teams?

I don't want this to turn into another one of those posts where I just completely get pessimistic, but the Braves can help me out and maybe win some games with a pitcher besides Hudson and Smoltz. Let's do some more numbers work...

The Mets have 37 games left. Let's say they tail off a little bit and go 18-19 from here on out.

That means the Mets finish the year at 89-73.

If that were to happen (a big if, because the mets have a win% of .568 on the year), the Braves would have to go 24-11 in their remaining 35 games.

Ouch! IF(again, big one) the Mets tail off the Braves have to win 24 of 35 games. Oh, and did I mention that 12 of those remaining 35 are against the Phillies or Mets? Yikes, I'd better end this post.

Jenny told me that corn doesn't digest well.....

anyways, my sincere apologies. It's been wwwwaaaaayyyy too long. Between Sonquest, softball postseason, start of school for the teens, and putting together the fall calendar, not only has my blogging time decreased but my overall computer time has decreased. Nonetheless, here I am with a few ponderings...

First, Mike Vick is a big ole banana flake.

Second, Chocolate flavored Chex cereal is tastier than I suspected it would be.

Third, Jacobs ladder is quite possibly the toughest exercise machine I have ever been on. Seriously, I'm just guessing here, but I probably burned more calories on that thing in 5 minutes than I burn on a treadmill for 15 minutes. Our YMCA has one that I've been using a lot lately and I feel better than I have in a long time, that thing is getting me in shape fast.

Been reading the book of Revelation a lot lately. I've probably read it through 3-4 times on and off in the past 10 days or so. I can't really give you a good reason why I've focused on it lately. I can promise you that I'm growing from it though. The "new heaven and new earth" leave me anxious to know God more.

I also finished reading Rob Bell's Velvet Elvis. Rob Bell to me has always been one of the more thought provoking guys out there concerning spirituality. But that book kind of disappointed me. It might be because I set my expectations too high, but it's most likely due to the fact that a good chunk of his material in that book overlaps with his NOOMA videos. The book does have some great points however that will get you thinking. I'll still probably read Sex God though.

That's it for me, I need more chocolate chex!

Yes, I actually said that.

I was told that 2016 is way, way conservative...that he could break it a couple years before that. Just thought i would communicate my understanding. Yes, I understand my guess is conservative. Yes, I understand that his 162 game average is in the 40s. Sportscenter claimed AROD could break it within 5 years...that doesn't seem likely to me.

I just feel like he'll slow down his pace, that's all...calm down peeps.

My reaction towards Bonds

Surprisingly, it is pretty neutral. More Neutral than even I thought it would be. I'm not really celebrating, but I'm not really hating that it happened either. I'm just kind of there. I wasn't watching the game, but I was watching sportscenter who played the live at-bat (and has been for several days).

At least the world of baseball will finally move on. Everything might finally be back to normal.

I don't really know WHY I'm neutral. I thought that when it happened I'd be hating it. Perhaps it's because I only will have to live with Bonds being homerun champion for a short while. So...any predictions on when Arod will break Bonds record? I'll say about 2016 or so, as long as he doesn't have any 73 HR seasons.

Thursday Notes:

I am so thankful that the Jarvis family has safely arrived in Valdosta. It has been a long year here at Central without a preacher. I look forward to working with Bryan and to serve alongside him. Too bad I'll miss his first sermon this Sunday, but I'll be...

In Atlanta this weekend. The Youth Group Braves trip is this weekend. We'll be at Saturday night's game, stay the night in ATL, worship with the Snellville COC, then head back to Valdyville. Personally, I'm pumped about the trip. It will be my first time seeing Teixeira and the other "new Braves".

A few posts ago, I was asking other people's input on Google Desktop. The input i received from you all matched the reviews I read: very mixed. Some liked it some hated it. I gave it a try. I downloaded it and tried it. The end result? I uninstalled it. I can see how a lot of people like it, but honestly, It got in my way too much. Most of the stuff I added on google desktop was the same stuff I have on my personalized google homepage, anyway. It just wasn't for me.
